On August 5th, 2017, Jubilee Educational Exchange welcomed several visitors from China. With a combination of classes and excursions, we introduced our guests to many opportunities for improving their conversational English. We spent the first week in Edmonton. During this time we attended a church service, played softball, spent an afternoon at a farm, took morning classes Tuesday to Friday, visited West Edmonton Mall, and went canoeing. The second week started with a trip to Jasper. Then we went down the Parkway to Banff. We stayed a night in Golden, carried on to Kelowna, and finally arrived in Vancouver where we toured around UBC, Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Jericho Beach, and Horseshoe Bay. Late Thursday, August 17th, they boarded their return flight to China. Thank you friends for visiting Edmonton!
On day 2, we prepared a grocery list and went shopping. The following three days, our guests prepared authentic Chinese food dinners and invited over several guests.
On day 3 we enjoyed dinner with the owner of a homeschool organization. Day 4 we dined with a man from Edmonton who's moving his family to China. Day 5, these were our dinner guests. While they were eating, the rest of us went canoeing.
Each morning of the first week, our guests had English class. Liz used many creative techniques to teach English. Next time, we want to teach even more about Canada, Alberta, and Edmonton.
Day 5 was canoeing. It's about a two-hour trip from Emily Murphy Park to Capilano. Half way through, the wind came, and we paddled harder. When it started raining, we kept saying, "It's only water."
On day 7, we started our tour through Jasper National Park. Maligne Canyon in Jasper is a light hike with lots of beautiful scenery. We also stopped at Athabasca Falls.
At the end of day 7, we stopped at the Columbia Icefield. This glacier feeds the Athabasca Falls.
On day 10 we walked along the seawall at Stanley Park in Vancouver. What a beautiful day. Lions Gate Bridge is in the background.
Day 11 we visited Jericho Beach in Vancouver on another sunny day.
